Almost a year! Yikes! When I started this blog I had every intention on posting regularly but I guess time got away from me. Where have I been? Where to begin....

When I left you, I was living happily in Valdez Alaska among the mountains and waterfalls. Things have changed. I had a job that I loved with a horrible boss. After a fruitless search for better employment that spanned the better part of a year, I decided enough was enough. I found a job in Anchorage (Alaska's largest city and about 300 miles away from Valdez) so my son and I packed up and moved to Eagle River, an Anchorage suburb if you will It's a very nice town and we love it but I miss Valdez desperately. We moved over Memorial Day weekend this last May but I visit often, I just can't stay away.

While the scenery in Eagle River and Anchorage definitely isn't anything close to what Valdez has to offer, it's still Alaska and therefore surrounded by incredible beauty. I can't really complain, life here in the Last Frontier is still better than I could imagine it being anywhere else.

I haven't really been out to take pictures lately but I figured I'd share a couple of pretty special moments I caught in my last two visits to Valdez.

Since starting this blog, I have been really itching to get to show you some of my favorite parts of living in Alaska and I finally get to!

Bears! The wildlife in Alaska is by far my favorite scenery. Except for maybe the giant moose that you can sometimes find standing in the middle of the road when you're driving 70 miles an hour.....

These photos are of 3 different black bears on 2 separate visits to Valdez but they were in the pretty much the same location because of the abundance of dying Salmon they can find right now.

While I was photographing, a gentleman next to me on the ledge we were watching from told me something very interesting about how bears get their protein. They pick the female Salmon out of the water and squeeze the eggs out. Apparently, the eggs contain more of the protein then the fish itself. In these photos, you can see the little orange balls covering the ground and being devoured. Caviar!

When they've had their fill, they simply disappear into the surrounding brush but this particular one struck a pose first.

I had a blast watching them, I hope you enjoy the pictures. I promise I'll be back with more sooner than later!

Until next time...
